ITINERARY.
Sun 17th May. Sail from Portsmouth @22.00 hours for Bilbao. No need to take a day off work!.
Tues 19. Disembark at Bilbao @ 08.00 and we're off, fresh from a relaxing cruise, 175 miles/5hours out into the start of the Pyrenees with opportunity to get used to the twists and turns of rural mountain roads and ending at our first night's hotel in Mauleon . 5.25 hrs/175 miles.
Wed 20th. Heading out on some seriously twisty roads we'll be in the Pyrenees proper, via the Col de Soulor, Col D'Aspin and the Col D'Aubisque, then on to our hotel for 2 nights in Bagneres de Luchon. Around 5 hours riding, 160 miles.
Thurs 21st. We will have a full days ride out into the Pyrenees with truly awe-inspiring roads and scenery, or for those who would rather take it easy stay by the pool and spa for the day. Tempting but not for me!
Fri 22nd. Leaving Bagneres we will take in more of the French side of the Pyrenees, including the Col du Portillon before crossing into Spain via some testing twisties and on to our hotel in Ripoll. By the end of this day you will have mastered twisties! 5 hrs/190 miles.
Sat 23rd. From Ripoll we start our way along the whole of the N260, to my mind one of the best roads in Spain, with a huge range of scenery, peaking and swooping along lake-side vistas and mountain panoramas. Our overnight stop is just north of Ainsa. A biking classic, enjoyment guaranteed. Around 190 miles/5 hours riding.
Sun 24th. Leaving Ainsa we pick up the N260a to take advantage of some stunning roads then on to Jaca and the N240 before heading out into a beutiful nature reserve in the Basque region before heading for a swim in our hotel pool. This is the longest day, 6 hours saddle time, 230 miles.
Mon 25th. We are moving out into the Picos today, on cracking roads that look like a plate of spaghetti in places. Via the famous Balcon de la Cardosa with it's Roe Buck statue to our hotel for 2 nights, the Parador de Fuente De. 5.5 hours/200 miles. Lovely spacious rooms to base ourselves for 2 nights.
Tues 26th. A day-long ride taking in some of the best roads in The Picos de Europe, including Riano and the must-do N621 and N 625. Around 5 hrs/150 miles.
Wed 27th. Our final day in Spain, we have a choice of leaving a little later in the morning taking a fast route to Santander for out 14.00 sailing or an earlier start and taking a more scenic and interesting route to the harbour, discuss! Our time on board will give us the opportunity to talk over highlights, swap memories and plan our next adventure.
Thurs 28th. We arrive back in Portsmouth at 20.00 for our final goodbyes and the ride home

The grandeur of the Pyrenees cannot be overstated, sweeping snow capped mountains and lush tree lined valleys. Most motorcycle tours will take two days riding across France to get here, with much of that time on the motorways, with tolls to pay as well. By taking the ferry to Bilbao we are only a short hop from the mountains and can start fresh in the morning from the boat and be on the interesting roads in an hour. It will save you the fuel for 1200 miles as well.
This tour is just pure enjoyment, the first two days into the Pyrenees to Bagneres where we stay for two nights with a ride out the following day, we cover all the main/famous Cols as well as some lesser known ones. Our third day in France we head east and south through mountains and into Spain on some gorgeous roads and head over to Ripoll, the start of the N260. I discovered the 260 a few years ago when I rode it between lockdowns when we could travel for a few weeks, I just love it, good surfaces, fantastic variety of scenery, twisty mountain roads, hairpins, lakeside vistas, it has it all. We will ride the whole length of it to Sabinanigo. Most other tours will then head to Pamplona, we're going well south of the city to take advantage of great riding roads usually not explored, we're in Basque country now, until we arrive at our hotel, like most on this trip, individual and quirky rather than anonymous chains. From here we head into the Picos proper, skirting the Embalse de Ebro lake then turning north and west to arrive at our Parador for 2 nights, Fuente De. I've stayed here a few times, it is excellent and a great base for our next-days ride-out, we will ride the renowned N625 and by the time we finish the tour all the best bits of the 621, see the unbeleivably blue waters at Riano and swim in them too, if you want. From the Parador it s a very manageable three hour ride to Santander in time to stock up with anything you feel you need for the cruise back to the UK. Relax on board, have a beer and arrive in Portsmouth fresh for the ride home, rather than another two days batting across France on the motorways.
